Something unsusual that happened that day
During any student’s first few months in school, you would not consider newly made friends as your very close and best friend, but that was what turned out for me and Nachiket. It was such unbelievable coincidences for both of us.
Unusually that day the contractor of my house mentioned that he was busy with another project. He was doing sketches of the interior design for a new apartment for a family by the surname “Sachin”. Then my mother looked over to me and asked, “Wasn’t one of my classmate’s surnames also “Sachin”?” I thought for a moment and recalled that my friend who sat beside me in class also had that surname. Curiously, I probed further, “is that family’s son Nachiket?” He replied, “I think so, by the way he goes to the same school as you, do you know him?” I smiled at him sheepishly and told him we may be talking about the same person. He also added that his father works in the same line as my father and he is from Tankers Pacific. My doubts were clarified with my father once he got home that night.
The next day in school I asked Nachiket, “you are going to move to your new apartment at Tanjong Rhu right? Your father works at Tankers Pacific and the contractor for your new house is Dennis.” He was stunned and looked at me, puzzled. I then explained to him that the link was Dennis, we are using the same contractor. “And my father knows your father! My father is Desmond,” I told him. His face brightened up as the cat is out of the bag. Nachiket immediately said he cannot wait to verify with his father. The very next day, he said he could not believe the coincidences. It is really a small world. First, it was the contractor, Dennis. Second, our fathers knew each other. Third, we were studying in the same school, same class and even sitting beside each other. Over the next few days, we laughed over this “discovery”.
Our friendship was strengthened further and I hope we will remain good friends for many more years to come.
For this post i would recommend you to listen to Built To Last as i do hope this friendship of ours would last. I hope you have read this Nachiket!
Signing off,
Axl
